I am not ashamed to admit that doing laundry is my biggest pet peeve. It’s a pain in the butt to get enough quarters to feed the overpriced, impossibly tiny washers and dryers in my building. There was a startup in SF for awhile that would let you “subscribe” to rolls of quarters via the mail and I almost actually signed up for that because I hate having to get quarters so much. (Tenderloin pro-tip: Golden Gate Tap Room has a change machine near their pool tables.)
It’s frustrating that the washers in my building are so tiny sometimes I have four loads but there’s only three washer/dryers. (Yeah, I’m super lazy and try not to do laundry more than every other week.) I hate the fact that every time I set aside time to do laundry, someone cool calls me and wants to go do something cool but I have to be all, “Nah man, gotta wait for these clothes to dry.”
Enter Washio, an iPhone app that does your laundry for you. I decided to try this out between business trips, when I was out of quarters, only had two days before I left, and needed my comforter washed as well. That comforter would never fit in the washer in my building, and I’m not sure if you’ve ever sat in a laundromat in the Tenderloin, but it ain’t pretty.
You set a time for pickup and delivery, fill up a tote bag with your laundry (separate bags are available for dry cleaning) and that’s it. Laundry is delivered the next day folded impossibly neat. Seriously, it’s the best thing before a business trip, because stuff’s folded so tiny you could fit your wardrobe into your carry on.
It is a little on the pricey side compared to doing everything yourself, but for sheer laziness factor, I give it an A+.
UPDATE: Minutes after posting this, Washio came to pick up a load of clothes AND THEY GAVE ME A CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE.
