Recently I came across a few different techniques for nail art that involve making your own decals. It’s pretty fun to do, and is actually a really great solution if there’s a markedly different skill level between your dominant hand and non-dominant one. (AKA your left hand looks great and your right hand looks… shaky.)
The Splatoon August update launches today, so I thought splatter painted nails were the perfect thing to do!

Today’s amiibo manicure is Rosalina! For Rosalina, I did a basic water marble using the two shades of blue from her dress and yellow from her hair and Luma. After the water marble, I topped with a glitter topcoat.
I’ve still got tons of amiibo to do, so leave a comment if you want to see a certain amiibo soon!

Up next for the amiibo manicure project is Sonic! The lovely folks at Sega sent me a Sonic manicure kit, so this seemed like a good time to try it! (Thanks Mallory!) The kit came with nail designs created by Badgirlnail.
This is a surprisingly simple manicure. The rings are made by using a dotting tool to create gold polka dots wherever you’d like. Give it a minute to dry and then use a smaller dotting tool in the background color to put a dot in the middle to give it a ring appearance.
For the shoe detail nail, you could use tape like the instructions show, but I prefer to freehand using a detail brush. Paint your background, let dry, paint the stripe, let dry and then add the buckle. When you’re done with everything, top it off with a coat of top coat and you’re good to go!

Last night I got a new nail polish and did my nails. When taking the obligatory Instagram pic, I decided to hold a Silver Mario amiibo instead of the paint bottle. I’m a big fan of the resulting image, so much so that I’ve decided to try and do a mani for all the amiibo! (Which may or may not happen because there are billions of amiibo.) Stay tuned for a bunch of Nintendo-themed manicures! I may even try my hand at a few videos to show nail art techniques.
The first amiibo mani matches Silver Mario and is three coats of Orly Mirrorball over one coat of OPI silver canvas. I used OPI Glitter Off for the base coat for the first time, so we’ll see how that turns out when I switch polishes!
I love Instagram. I bet you’ve never heard a social media manager say that before. Since I will hopefully make new friends in the blogosphere (I’m sorry that I just said “blogosphere”), I am going to take a second to plug my Instagram feed. I feel like I strike a good balance between pics of scenic San Francisco, selfies, and dog pics.
